MongoDB is seeking a Software Engineer 3 to join the Atlas Stream Processing team in New York City, New York. In this full-time role, you'll develop and enhance the platform that enables developers to process streams of complex data using the same data model and Query API as Atlas databases, driving continuous innovation in real-time data processing.
What This Role Involves
As a Software Engineer 3 in stream processing, you'll work on core infrastructure that allows developers to seamlessly connect their MongoDB Atlas databases with real-time data streams. You'll contribute to features that have reached general availability and are now used in production by MongoDB customers worldwide. This role requires strong technical judgment and the ability to own substantial components of the stream processing platform.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement core functionality for the Atlas Stream Processing platform that processes complex data streams alongside application data stored in MongoDB
- Build and optimize features that leverage the same Query API developers use with Atlas databases, ensuring consistency and familiarity across the platform
- Collaborate with product and design teams to refine the developer experience for stream processing workflows
- Conduct code reviews and mentor junior engineers on technical best practices and architectural patterns
- Debug and resolve production issues affecting stream processing workloads across MongoDB customer deployments
- Contribute to technical design documents and architecture decisions for new platform capabilities
What You Bring
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with demonstrated growth to senior individual contributor level
- Strong systems programming background in languages such as Java, C++, Go, or Rust
- Deep understanding of distributed systems, streaming data pipelines, and real-time data processing concepts
- Experience building production infrastructure or platform-level features at scale
- Solid understanding of databases, data models, and query languages
- Excellent communication skills and ability to articulate technical decisions to cross-functional teams
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience
