The Role

We are seeking an energetic, enthusiastic SIM Engineer II to join the expanding SIM Engineering team, supporting Cubic’s growing customer base and solutions portfolio.

The SIM Engineering team delivers Cubic solutions in the SIM/eSIM Remote SIM Provisioning technology domain, executing state-of-the-art technology projects with global connectivity reach to the automotive, agriculture, and transport industries. We design, develop, and support connectivity solutions leveraging remote SIM provisioning platforms, managing a complex ecosystem of SIM/eSIM technologies, providing SIM/eSIM card logistics and fulfilment, and supporting a global customer base.

You will have the opportunity to work with emerging connectivity technologies including 5G, non-terrestrial networks, and the evolution of eSIM to the latest GSMA specifications. Responsibilities

  • Support the design, validation, and maintenance of electrical profiles for SIM and eSIM products

  • Design and implement Java Card applets for SIM/eSIM services, working to 3GPP, ETSI, and GSMA standards

  • Write and maintain technical documentation (e.g. applet specification, electrical profile specifications, APIs, test plans)

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (mobile core network, security, IoT device vendors, smart card (eUICC) vendors)

  • Develop, test, and support SIM-based applications and tools supporting SIM applications and their integration within the SIM/eSIM ecosystem

  • Contribute to peer review of electrical test data and reports, supporting the technical growth of team members

This is an excellent opportunity for a SIM Engineer II to gain hands-on experience of the complete end-to-end process of SIM/eSIM ordering and provisioning, SIM/eSIM Over-the-Air (OTA) infrastructure and management, SIM Remote SIM Provisioning (RSP) solutions for M2M and IoT, SIM–device–network interaction, and more. You’ll work in a small team of experienced engineers at the cutting edge of M2M and IoT eSIM technologies, supporting technical teams across full end-to-end solutions and gaining exposure to diverse technical areas.

Required Skills

  • Third level qualification in a technology discipline such as Engineering, Computer Science, or similar

  • 3–6 years’ experience working in a technology organisation, preferably telecoms technology, with up to 3 years’ experience in SIM/eSIM/OTA engineering R&D

  • Experience with Remote SIM Provisioning technologies (GSMA SGP.02, GSMA SGP.22/SGP.32)

  • Good knowledge of SIM/eSIM architecture and protocols (APDU, ISO 7816)

  • Familiarity with 3GPP/ETSI standards relevant to SIMs (e.g., TS 31.102, TS 102.221)

  • Experience with smart card test & trace tools (e.g., Comprion)

  • Understanding of secure coding practices and cryptographic protocols

  • Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git) and development tools

  • Knowledge of SIM operating systems for secure elements (e.g., MULTOS, native SIM OS)

  • Experience working with MNOs or handset OEMs and familiarity with mobile network elements (HSS, OTA platforms, test SIMs)

  • Experience/knowledge of Postman API, Java, C#, SQL, scripting knowledge

  • Experience with monitoring and alerting tools (e.g., DataDog, Zabbix)

  • Proactive and open-minded with analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Fast learner with curiosity and quality focus

  • Ability to work unsupervised and take responsibility for task completion

  • Effective communication skills

Desirable Skills

  • Familiarity with Atlassian tools (Confluence, Jira)

  • Experience working in a Kanban model

  • Demonstrable problem-solving ability and new perspectives on existing solutions

  • Independent work ethic and willingness to contribute to process improvements

  • Ability to guide and mentor less experienced colleagues and lead small project teams

New hires at Cubic³ are required to work onsite five days a week during their six-month probation period to get to know the company, their team, and our ways of working. After probation, we offer a flexible arrangement of up to eight work-from-home days per month, provided it aligns with business needs and performance standards. This arrangement is not a given for all roles.
