Senior Interior Designer

DES is seeking a Senior Interior Designer to lead transformative design projects in our Atherton, San Mateo County office. This full-time position offers the opportunity to create impactful, thoughtfully designed environments that elevate how clients work, live, and interact with their spaces.

About the Role

As a Senior Interior Designer at DES, you'll direct the design vision for complex, high-profile projects from concept through completion. You'll collaborate with clients to understand their organizational culture, operational needs, and long-term goals—then translate that insight into cohesive interior environments that balance aesthetic excellence with practical functionality.

What You'll Do

• Lead design strategy and conceptual development for multi-phase interior design projects, working closely with stakeholders to define objectives and refine direction
• Develop comprehensive design presentations, including floor plans, 3D renderings, material selections, and specification documentation
• Integrate sustainable design practices and innovative solutions that reduce environmental impact while maintaining design integrity
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and vendor relationships to ensure quality delivery on schedule
• Mentor junior team members and contribute to the firm's design standards and best practices
• Conduct site assessments, building code reviews, and feasibility analyses to inform design decisions
• Oversee design implementation, coordinating with contractors and ensuring fidelity to the approved design vision

What We're Looking For

• 7+ years of professional interior design experience, with a portfolio demonstrating expertise in complex, multi-disciplinary projects
• Deep knowledge of workplace design, space planning, and how environments influence organizational culture
• Proficiency in design software and tools (AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, or equivalent)
• Strong understanding of building codes, accessibility standards, and sustainable design principles
• Exceptional communication skills and proven ability to manage client relationships and cross-functional teams
• Professional design credentials (NCIDQ, IIDA, or ASID membership preferred)
• Bachelor's degree in Interior Design or related field
