Interview prep

Fit summary

Strong fit if you already estimate water/wastewater construction and want EPC-scale infrastructure at a long-standing firm (bv.com). Weaker fit if you need remote work or lack heavy civil/process estimating depth. Data here does not include pay bands or employee-review scores.

Day in the role

As a Senior Estimator – Water/Wastewater at Black & Veatch, a typical day centers on building and defending cost estimates for treatment plants, pipelines, and related civil/process scopes. You would take off quantities, price labor/equipment/materials, align assumptions with design and procurement, and package bids or change estimates for client review. Collaboration with project managers, engineers, and construction partners is core; much of the work supports EPC delivery rather than pure consulting write-ups.

Skills to emphasize

Prioritize water/wastewater takeoff and unit pricing, EPC bid workflows, and clear basis-of-estimate documentation. Strengthen spreadsheet/estimating tools, reading civil and process drawings, and stakeholder communication. No certification list was provided for this posting—focus on demonstrated estimate ownership and project delivery experience over credentials alone.
