Northeastern University seeks a Senior Director, Major Gifts to build and manage our major gift fundraising efforts for a designated geographic region. In this full-time Boston-based role, you'll identify, cultivate, and solicit transformational commitments ($250K–$1M) in support of our institution's strategic priorities.

About the Role

Operating within our One Northeastern model, you'll maintain a university-wide perspective while driving philanthropic support for academic and research programs across multiple colleges. Your work will help advance the educational mission and innovation that define Northeastern.

What You'll Do

  • Identify and qualify major gift prospects within your assigned geographic territory who have the capacity and inclination to support Northeastern
  • Develop and execute strategic cultivation plans that build meaningful relationships with prospective donors over time
  • Solicit and close major gift commitments in the $250,000–$1 million range
  • Partner with academic leaders, program directors, and advancement colleagues to connect giving opportunities with institutional priorities across colleges and specialized programs
  • Engage donors through meaningful interactions, campus experiences, and ongoing stewardship
  • Manage prospect records and pipeline activity; report on fundraising results and metrics

What We're Looking For

  • Demonstrated success securing major gifts, with a track record of closing significant commitments at this level
  • Deep expertise in donor prospect research, relationship cultivation, and solicitation strategy
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills that build trust with prospective donors and institutional partners
  • Proven ability to manage complex relationships independently while collaborating across departments
  • Proficiency with donor relationship management systems and reporting tools
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in nonprofit management, fundraising, or related field preferred
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly within your geographic region
