Join Our Open's team as a School Shift Direct Support Counselor in Plymouth, Plymouth County. About the Role
As a School Shift Direct Support Counselor, you'll be part of a dedicated team within Our Open's community-based and residential programs. You'll work directly with youth from elementary through young adulthood, providing consistent support, encouragement, and practical assistance during school hours. Your presence makes a measurable difference in students' daily lives and long-term outcomes.
What You'll Do
- Provide direct support to assigned students during the school day, helping them engage academically and socially
- Follow individualized treatment and education plans developed by clinical and educational leadership
- Use de-escalation and trauma-informed approaches to help students manage challenging emotions and behaviors
- Foster positive relationships with students and build trust through consistent, empathetic engagement
- Collaborate with teachers, school staff, and other team members to ensure coordinated support
- Document observations and progress, maintaining accurate records of student interactions and milestones
- Support students in developing coping skills, emotional regulation, and social connection

- High school diploma or GED required; some college or relevant experience preferred
- Genuine passion for supporting vulnerable and at-risk youth
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and compassionate under pressure
- Strong communication and active listening skills
- Willingness to learn and apply trauma-informed, strength-based approaches
- Reliable attendance and commitment to consistent presence for students
- Ability to work as part of an integrated team and follow agency protocols
