Muskegon County is hiring a full-time Resource Recovery Center Pretreatment Inspector based in Muskegon Heights, Michigan — a hands-on role safeguarding water quality through the inspection and oversight of industrial wastewater discharges.
About the Role
As a Pretreatment Inspector at Muskegon County's Resource Recovery Center, you will support the day-to-day delivery of the county's approved Industrial Pretreatment Program, Hauled Waste Program, and Mercury Minimization Program. Working under direct supervision, you'll carry out paraprofessional-level fieldwork and analysis that helps keep regulated discharges within compliance and protects the regional treatment system.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine inspections and evaluations of wastewater and other discharges from industrial and hauled-waste sources.
- Review and assess data and documentation tied to discharge activity for accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Assist in administering the Industrial Pretreatment, Hauled Waste, and Mercury Minimization programs.
- Document findings, prepare reports, and flag potential violations or irregularities for follow-up.
- Coordinate with permitted facilities and program staff to support corrective actions and ongoing monitoring.
Qualifications
- Ability to perform paraprofessional inspection and evaluation duties under direct supervision.
- Comfort interpreting technical data and information related to wastewater discharges.
- Strong attention to detail, accurate record-keeping, and clear written reporting.
