MedStarHealth is seeking a dedicated Rad Tech - Interventional Radiography to join its team in Olney, Montgomery County, where you will support minimally invasive procedures using advanced imaging technology.
About the Role
As an Interventional Radiology Technician, you will work closely with physicians and nursing staff to ensure safe, efficient imaging-guided interventions. This full-time position operates within a clinical environment that prioritizes patient comfort, procedural accuracy, and adherence to stringent safety standards.
What You'll Do
- Prepare patients for interventional radiology procedures by explaining processes, positioning them correctly, and verifying medical histories.
- Set up and operate fluoroscopic, ultrasound, and CT imaging equipment, adjusting parameters to obtain optimal diagnostic images.
- Maintain a sterile field during procedures, handing instruments and supplies to the interventional radiologist while observing aseptic technique.
- Monitor patient vital signs and comfort levels throughout the exam, promptly reporting any changes to the clinical team.
- Document procedural details, radiation doses, and equipment usage in the electronic health record according to departmental protocols.
- Perform routine quality assurance checks on imaging devices and coordinate with biomedical engineering for maintenance or repairs.
- Participate in ongoing education and training to stay current with evolving interventional techniques and radiation safety practices.
What We're Looking For
- Active ARRT(R) certification in Radiography and state licensure as a Radiologic Technologist.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; additional credentials such as CPR or ACLS are advantageous.
- Proven experience in a clinical radiology setting, preferably with exposure to interventional or vascular procedures.
- Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary team members.
- Attention to detail and the ability to follow complex procedural protocols while maintaining a calm demeanor under pressure.
- Commitment to continuous learning and adherence to radiation safety (ALARA) principles.
