Momentum IO is hiring a Principal Product Designer (contract or FTE) to lead high-impact digital experience work for some of the world's most ambitious brands, startups, and enterprises. This role is remote within the United States, aligned to PST hours with our Silicon Valley offices, and working on-site is also an option.

About the Role

As a Principal Product Designer at Momentum IO, you'll set the bar for thoughtful, forward-looking design across research, strategy, information architecture, and interaction. Each year brings new territory — past 18-month stretches have included connected-cabin concepts for automakers, surgical visualization in 3D, VR, and AR, fraud and trafficking prevention at the US border, carbon-credit platforms tackling climate change, and investment tools for major financial firms. No two projects look the same.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead discovery, research workshops, and strategy sessions directly with C-level stakeholders.
  • Translate complex business needs into clear interaction models, scenarios, and pixel-precise screen designs.
  • Define and extend visual interfaces, design systems, and interface guidelines across multiple platforms.
  • Partner with clients across the full project lifecycle, presenting work and folding feedback back into the team.
  • Mentor and coach fellow designers, helping them reach their full potential.
  • Work alongside project management to ship digital experiences on schedule and on budget.

Qualifications

  • A portfolio showcasing software application design (include a link, plus password if needed — applications without one won't be reviewed).
  • At least 6 years in UX, or exceptional talent that speaks for itself.
  • Sharp visual instincts and genuine enthusiasm for emerging design trends.
  • Strong command of HTML, CSS, design systems, user stories, research, and persona development.
  • Confident communication in person and on paper, especially when presenting to clients and executives.
  • Comfort working independently and collaboratively, with occasional travel to client or work-related sites.
  • Must live in the United States and be authorized to work here.
