About the Role
As an Orientation and Mobility Specialist with Corpus Christi Independent School District, you will assess and instruct students who are blind, low vision, or visually impaired, helping them learn to navigate classrooms, campuses, and their broader communities. This is a full-time, in-person position within the district's Special Education Services department.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate the orientation and mobility needs of students who are visually impaired across district campuses.
- Design and deliver individualized instruction that builds safe, independent travel skills.
- Teach techniques for navigating indoor and outdoor environments, including the use of mobility tools and aids.
- Collaborate with teachers, families, and special education staff to support each student's goals.
- Document progress and contribute to individualized education program planning.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree earned through an approved orientation and mobility preparation program.
- Current certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist through the Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired.
- A strong commitment to serving students with visual impairments in a school setting.
