The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking an exceptional veterinarian for an Open Rank Assistant/Associate Professor of Comparative Medicine position at the Michale E. Keeling Center for Comparative Medicine and Research in Bastrop, Bastrop County. About the Role
This full-time faculty appointment within the Department of Comparative Medicine offers an experienced veterinarian the opportunity to lead clinical care across a thriving research environment in Bastrop, Texas. Set on roughly 300 acres, the Keeling Center is home to approximately 2,500 nonhuman primates, including neotropical species, macaques, baboons, and chimpanzees. The successful candidate will help shape the standard of veterinary excellence supporting groundbreaking comparative medicine research.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical oversight and direct veterinary care for a diverse nonhuman primate population.
- Guide health management practices and contribute to the well-being of research animals across the campus.
- Collaborate with faculty, researchers, and animal care staff to advance comparative medicine objectives.
- Support institutional standards for the humane and responsible care of laboratory animals.
Qualifications
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) degree from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated experience in clinical veterinary care, ideally within a research or laboratory animal setting.
- Familiarity with nonhuman primate species and their specialized health needs is highly valued.
- Credentials commensurate with appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.
