About the Role
As a Lifeguard at our Somers facility, you'll be the watchful guardian of our aquatic center, ensuring every visitor—from young children to adults—can enjoy the pool safely. You'll combine vigilance, knowledge, and quick thinking to prevent accidents and respond swiftly if they occur.
What You'll Do
- Monitor swimmers continuously from your lifeguard station, scanning the water and pool deck for signs of distress or safety concerns
- Enforce pool rules and safety guidelines consistently and courteously with all patrons
- Respond immediately to emergencies and provide first aid or CPR when needed
- Maintain lifeguard equipment, facilities, and documentation in excellent condition
- Assist with pool operations including opening and closing procedures
- Educate patrons about aquatic safety practices and facility guidelines
- Work collaboratively with the YMCA team to support a safe, inclusive swimming environment
What We're Looking For
- Current Lifeguard Certification (or ability to obtain before employment)
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain alert and focused for extended periods
- Physical fitness and ability to respond quickly in emergencies
- Commitment to YMCA values of community, integrity, and inclusion
- Previous lifeguard or aquatic safety experience is a plus
