Jacobs is hiring a Life Safety Systems and Fire Alarm Engineer Subject Matter Expert for our office in Village of Los Ranchos, Bernalillo County. In this full-time position, you'll leverage your expertise in life safety design, compliance, and fire alarm systems to support critical infrastructure projects across the United States.
About the Role
As a Life Safety Systems and Fire Alarm Engineer SME at Jacobs, you'll serve as a technical authority on complex life safety and fire protection systems. Your deep knowledge will guide project teams through design, evaluation, testing, and compliance phases for diverse client needs—from municipal facilities to commercial infrastructure.
What You'll Do
- Design and evaluate life safety systems and fire alarm architectures that meet applicable codes and standards
- Provide technical expertise on fire suppression, detection, and notification systems
- Lead code compliance reviews and ensure adherence to NFPA standards, IBC requirements, and local regulations
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and facility managers to integrate life safety solutions into larger projects
- Develop specifications, test protocols, and technical documentation
- Troubleshoot complex system challenges and recommend engineered solutions
- Support commissioning and training activities for facility operations teams
What We're Looking For
- Proven expertise in life safety systems engineering and fire alarm design
- Strong knowledge of NFPA codes, IBC standards, and applicable authority having jurisdiction requirements
- Professional engineer (PE) license or equivalent technical credentials
- Experience with fire suppression, detection, and emergency communication systems
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to safety-critical detail
- Ability to mentor junior team members and present technical findings to clients
- Strong communication skills and professional judgment
