Lead Snowflake Administrator

M&T Bank seeks a Lead Snowflake Administrator to lead data platform operations and strategy in Buffalo, Erie County. In this full-time role, you'll oversee Snowflake database administration, mentor technical teams, and drive cloud data infrastructure improvements that support the bank's analytics and business intelligence initiatives.

About the Role

As Lead Snowflake Administrator at M&T Bank, you'll own the strategic direction and day-to-day management of our Snowflake cloud data warehouse. You'll serve as the primary technical expert, guiding architecture decisions, performance optimization, and security compliance across our data platform. This role combines hands-on technical work with cross-functional leadership, as you collaborate with application development, cloud infrastructure, and business analytics teams to ensure our data systems meet enterprise-scale demands.

What You'll Do

• Design, deploy, and optimize Snowflake data warehouse infrastructure to support growing business intelligence and analytics workloads
• Manage database administration tasks including access control, user provisioning, backup strategies, and disaster recovery
• Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions that improve reliability and query efficiency
• Lead technical evaluations and recommend upgrades or architectural changes to enhance platform capabilities
• Mentor junior technical staff and knowledge-transfer Snowflake expertise across teams
• Work with security and compliance teams to maintain data governance and regulatory requirements
• Partner with cloud engineers and application teams to integrate Snowflake with broader enterprise systems

What We're Looking For

• Advanced hands-on experience administering Snowflake in production environments
• Strong knowledge of cloud data warehouse architecture, performance tuning, and scalability
• Proficiency with SQL, data modeling, and database optimization techniques
• Understanding of cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and hybrid data integration patterns
• Leadership experience mentoring technical teams or managing database infrastructure projects
• Familiarity with data security, compliance frameworks, and access control best practices
• Excellent communication skills and ability to translate technical concepts for business stakeholders
