CDM Smith is seeking an International PFAS Forensics Subject Matter Expert to join our team in Portland, Cumberland County — a full-time, on-site opportunity to apply specialized environmental forensics expertise to projects that matter on a global scale.
About the Role
As an International PFAS Forensics Subject Matter Expert at CDM Smith, you will serve as a technical authority on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), guiding investigations, source identification, and forensic analysis across international projects. This Portland-based position places you at the center of complex environmental challenges, where your specialized knowledge helps shape strategy, inform clients, and advance solutions that protect communities and ecosystems.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide subject matter expertise on PFAS occurrence, fate, transport, and forensic source attribution.
- Support and lead environmental forensics investigations on international projects.
- Interpret analytical data to distinguish PFAS sources and contributing pathways.
- Advise project teams and clients on technical approaches, regulatory considerations, and emerging science.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver defensible, high-quality findings.
- Contribute to proposals, technical reporting, and the growth of CDM Smith's PFAS practice.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in PFAS chemistry, environmental forensics, and contaminant source evaluation.
- Experience supporting international or large-scale environmental investigations.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data-interpretation skills.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
- A collaborative mindset and a commitment to rigorous, science-driven work.
