Senior Product Designer

Forerunner is hiring a remote Senior Product Designer to shape intelligent software that helps government agencies and regulated industries protect the communities and critical infrastructure they serve. About the Role

As a Senior Product Designer at Forerunner, you'll lead complex, cross-functional product work end to end — framing the problem, defining what success looks like, and delivering polished, accessible workflows across web and mobile. Forerunner is still early, so there's no fixed playbook: priorities evolve as we learn from customers, and you'll make sound calls with imperfect information. Your designs will help public and private agencies manage assets, enforce codes, track grants, and make the everyday decisions that keep people safe.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner with product and engineering to clarify fuzzy problems, scope work, and set measurable outcomes.
• Drive discovery through interviews, task analysis, and field research, then translate findings into strategy.
• Design complete flows from low to high fidelity, moving fast when speed matters and going deep when quality demands it.
• Prototype in Figma and Claude Code, validate with users, and iterate across competing directions.
• Guide implementation alongside engineering and lead final design reviews before launch.
• Grow our Figma-based design system with scalable, accessible patterns, and document the reasoning behind decisions.
• Build trust with PM, Eng, and CS partners, align teams amid ambiguity, and raise the quality bar through generous feedback.

Qualifications

• A track record leading complex product design projects from discovery to launch while influencing product direction.
• A portfolio demonstrating systems thinking, sharp UX, and a gift for simplifying complicated workflows.
• Depth in user research and product judgment, connecting design choices to measurable results.
• Fluency in Figma and Claude Code, with experience building and evolving design systems and prototyping at multiple fidelities.
• Clear communication and storytelling that aligns cross-functional partners without waiting for perfect information.
• Genuine comfort with ambiguity, shifting priorities, and scrappy environments — roughly 5–8 years of experience or equivalent depth.
• Bonus: background in civic tech, climate tools, or other high-stakes, data-heavy domains.
