Independent Living Systems is hiring a full-time Housing Navigator in San Mateo to connect vulnerable populations with stable, supportive housing solutions. This position plays a direct role in helping individuals and families secure safe, affordable housing and maintain their independence.
About the Role
As Housing Navigator at Independent Living Systems, you'll serve as a bridge between residents and housing resources, guiding people through the process of finding and securing appropriate housing. You'll work with individuals facing housing instability—including those experiencing homelessness, seniors, people with disabilities, and other vulnerable populations—to identify options, complete applications, and navigate lease agreements. Your work directly supports the company's mission to promote independence and improve quality of life across the communities served.
What You'll Do
- Assess housing needs and barriers for individuals and families seeking assistance
- Research, identify, and coordinate available housing programs and resources in San Mateo County
- Provide guidance on housing applications, lease terms, and tenant rights
- Connect clients with landlords, property managers, and housing providers
- Assist with documentation preparation and eligibility verification
- Follow up with clients to ensure successful housing placement and stability
- Maintain detailed records and communicate progress with case management teams
- Educate clients on budgeting, lease compliance, and long-term housing stability
What We're Looking For
- Experience working with vulnerable, underserved, or homeless populations
- Strong knowledge of local housing programs and San Mateo County resources
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and coordinate with multiple agencies
- Problem-solving mindset and commitment to client advocacy
- Proficiency with case management systems and basic computer skills
- High school diploma or equivalent required; experience in social services preferred
