About the Role

As a Histology Technician Extra on Call with Trinity Health in Fresno, you will carry out the technical work involved in readying surgical, autopsy, and cytology specimens for microscopic review. Working on an as-needed basis, you will help ensure that pathologists and clinicians receive accurately prepared slides that guide patient diagnosis and treatment. The role may also include providing hands-on technical guidance to students enrolled in an ASCP-accredited Histologic Technique program.

Key Responsibilities

• Process and prepare surgical, autopsy, and cytology specimens for examination under the microscope.
• Perform laboratory techniques such as embedding, sectioning, and staining to histology standards.
• Maintain quality and accuracy throughout each step of specimen preparation.
• Offer technical instruction and mentorship to students in an ASCP-approved histologic technique program, when assigned.
• Respond to on-call scheduling needs to support uninterrupted laboratory operations.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of histology laboratory procedures and specimen handling.
• Candidates should be actively preparing to pass the ASCP-HT (Histotechnician) certification examination.
• Attention to detail, reliability, and the flexibility to work an on-call, extra-shift schedule.
• Ability to follow established safety and quality protocols in a clinical laboratory setting.
