Head Start Cook

Join OCO as a full-time Head Start Cook in West Monroe, Oswego County. We're seeking a dedicated culinary professional to prepare nutritious, delicious meals for our preschool program while fostering a warm, caring environment where young learners thrive.

About the Role

This is a full-time position working Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 2:00pm (32 hours weekly, 39 weeks annually) at a Grade 11 level, with compensation ranging from $16.00 to $20.19 per hour. As our Head Start Cook, you'll plan and prepare wholesome breakfasts, lunches, and snacks that meet our early childhood nutrition standards. You'll manage kitchen operations, maintain health and safety protocols, and contribute to creating a nourishing experience for the children and families we serve.

What You'll Do

• Plan weekly menus and prepare meals and snacks from scratch, adhering to nutritional guidelines and dietary accommodations
• Maintain a clean, organized kitchen and follow food safety regulations and health department requirements
• Manage inventory, order supplies, and track costs effectively
• Collaborate with teachers and program staff to understand children's dietary needs and preferences
• Demonstrate enthusiasm for supporting early childhood development through quality nutrition

What We're Looking For

• Culinary experience in an institutional or foodservice environment
• Genuine passion for working with preschool-age children
• Knowledge of food preparation, safety, and nutrition for young learners
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Grade 11 education level or equivalent
