Base Power Company, a next-generation power company based in Austin, Texas, is hiring a Government Affairs Lead to drive policy engagement and regulatory strategy in Travis County and across the region.

About the Role

As our Government Affairs Lead, you'll be the voice for Base Power Company within regulatory bodies, legislative forums, and government agencies. In this full-time position based in Austin, you'll shape how our distributed battery network and grid resilience initiatives are understood and supported by policymakers. You'll translate complex energy policy into clear messaging that builds momentum for modern infrastructure.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and execute government affairs strategy aligned with our grid transformation mission in Texas and beyond
  • Build and nurture relationships with state legislators, regulatory commissioners, and municipal officials in the Austin metropolitan area and statewide
  • Monitor energy legislation and regulatory proceedings; advise leadership on policy implications and opportunities
  • Prepare testimony, comments, and policy briefings for regulatory filings and public hearings
  • Coordinate with stakeholders—utilities, consumer advocates, environmental groups—to advance industry-friendly policy positions
  • Lead permitting and licensing engagement with Travis County and municipal authorities
  • Communicate company positions to government and the public, emphasizing our role in grid stability and electrification

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years in government affairs, regulatory strategy, policy advocacy, or related government relations roles
  • Deep knowledge of energy policy, grid operations, and electricity regulation (ERCOT, PUC of Texas, or equivalent federal/state experience preferred)
  • Track record of successful stakeholder engagement and legislative/regulatory wins
  • Excellent writing and public speaking skills; ability to distill complex technical topics
  • Existing relationships in Texas energy policy circles and state government
  • Strategic thinking and ability to navigate competing interests in heavily regulated industries
