SSI People is hiring a Footwear Material Developer to join our team in Progress, Washington County. This full-time position is centered on materials development and innovation, where you'll play a key role in selecting, testing, and advancing materials that define the quality and performance of our footwear products.
About the Role
As a Footwear Material Developer, you'll be responsible for evaluating and developing materials that meet our exacting standards while supporting our product design vision. This is a hands-on role where your expertise directly influences how our footwear performs in the market.
What You'll Do
- Collaborate with product design and engineering teams to select and specify materials that align with product intent and performance requirements
- Evaluate footwear material options—including leather, synthetics, rubbers, foams, and advanced composites—for durability, comfort, and quality
- Conduct testing and analysis to ensure materials meet company standards and industry specifications
- Research and stay current with emerging materials and technologies in footwear manufacturing
- Work with suppliers and manufacturers to source and qualify new materials
- Document findings and maintain detailed records of material performance and specifications
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that drive innovation in our product lines
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Polymer Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
- Experience in materials development, product development, or quality assurance within footwear, apparel, or related industries
- Strong knowledge of footwear materials, construction methods, and performance testing
- Familiarity with material testing standards and certification requirements
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality
