About This Position

As Principal Technical Lead Manager - AI Data Applications at Motional, you will form and direct a newly created AI Data Application group. You will set strategy, oversee builds, and deliver programs that accelerate machine learning dataset production plus data search tools. The aim is to compress timelines for new pipelines and models while positioning operations for autonomous readiness. Serving as a practical leader, you unite deep skill in data systems and infrastructure with proven people management. You will hire talent, coach team members, and expand a high-caliber engineering group that champions inventive ideas, shared effort, and steady refinement. Full remote work across the United States is available.

Key Responsibilities

• Form, guide, and oversee a strong team of full-stack web engineers.
• Set group targets, task order, and forward plans that match company goals.
• Supply technical direction, coaching, and career growth paths for team members.
• Shape the technical direction for services and web platforms that store, search metadata, and assemble datasets.
• Outline AI integration plans for the frontend code and user experience efforts to quicken builds and release timing.
• Locate and review modern tools and methods for querying datasets held in mixed databases such as vector stores for images and Postgres for metadata, plus APIs owned by other internal groups.
• Coordinate with data mining specialists, machine learning researchers, and additional data platform teams to capture needs and embed solutions cleanly.
• Present advanced technical ideas and plans clearly to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or related field
• Eight or more years of professional work building web applications
• Three or more years in a technical lead or management role
• Deep background building web applications for search and data curation tasks
• Deep experience with API and query federation tools including GraphQL or AWS Athena
• Strong coding skill in Typescript and Python
• Strong knowledge of modern frontend technologies such as React
• Strong knowledge of creating REST and gRPC services, ideally with Python
• Prior work building web applications for engineering or machine learning use cases
• Prior autonomous vehicle experience is a plus
• Prior Bazel build system experience is a plus
• Prior work creating frontend workflows that use large language models is a plus
