Director, Physical Security

The University of Rochester is seeking an experienced and strategic Director, Physical Security to lead enterprise-wide security operations across its campuses in the United States. This is a full-time, on-site leadership role for a seasoned professional ready to shape and execute a forward-thinking security program at one of the nation's premier research universities.

About the Role

As Director of Physical Security, you will serve as the principal authority on campus safety infrastructure, personnel, and policy. What You'll Do

• Design, implement, and continuously improve a comprehensive physical security strategy aligned with institutional values and operational priorities
• Lead, develop, and manage a team of security professionals including supervisors, officers, and support staff
• Oversee access control systems, video surveillance infrastructure, intrusion detection, and related security technologies
• Serve as the university's primary liaison to local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies
• Direct emergency preparedness planning and coordinate incident response across departments
• Conduct ongoing risk and threat assessments, translating findings into actionable mitigation measures
• Ensure institutional compliance with applicable regulations, including the Jeanne Clery Act and campus safety reporting requirements
• Develop and manage the physical security budget, including vendor contracts and capital planning for security systems
• Partner with facilities management, IT, student affairs, and senior leadership to integrate security into campus operations
• Establish training standards and professional development programs for the security workforce

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, security management, emergency management, or a closely related field; advanced degree preferred
• Substantial progressive experience in physical security leadership, with demonstrated success managing large, complex organizations
• Deep knowledge of modern security systems, access control platforms, and surveillance technologies
• Proven ability to lead teams, manage budgets, and influence stakeholders at all organizational levels
• Familiarity with higher education security environments and Clery Act compliance is a strong advantage
• Excellent communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills
• Professional certification (CPP, PSP, or equivalent) is a plus
