Confluent is hiring a Director of Engineering, Traffic & Networking in Helena, Lewis and Clark County, Montana. This full-time position leads engineering strategy for core traffic management and networking infrastructure at Confluent, the streaming data platform company.
About the Role
As Director of Engineering, Traffic & Networking, you'll own the technical vision and execution for systems that handle data flow, network optimization, and infrastructure reliability. You'll lead a talented engineering team, define architectural decisions, and ensure the platform's networking layer operates at scale and meets Confluent's performance standards.
What You'll Do
- Lead and mentor engineering teams responsible for traffic management and networking systems
- Develop technical strategy and roadmap for core infrastructure components
- Design and oversee implementation of network optimization solutions
- Drive reliability, performance tuning, and incident response for critical systems
- Collaborate across product, operations, and infrastructure engineering teams
- Establish engineering standards, code quality practices, and deployment processes
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies and architectural approaches
What We're Looking For
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, with 3+ years in engineering leadership
- Expert-level knowledge of networking, traffic routing, or distributed systems
- Proven ability to scale high-performing engineering teams
- Strong systems design and performance optimization background
- Experience with cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, or containerized environments
- Demonstrated success shipping complex infrastructure projects
- Excellent cross-functional communication and leadership skills

Compensation & Benefits
Confluent offers a competitive salary range of $297,500 to $357,000, plus equity. The company provides comprehensive benefits designed to support employee well-being and career growth.
