CMMB is seeking an experienced Director, Communications to lead brand strategy, storytelling, and multi-channel campaigns for a century-old global health organization. Based in the United States, this full-time role is primarily remote with up to 20% local and international travel.
About the Role
As Director, Communications at CMMB, you will guide the team that designs and delivers the communications strategies powering CMMB's marketing, internal and external messaging, and brand presence nationally and internationally. You will shape integrated campaigns that share CMMB's story, deepen engagement, and strengthen fundraising — translating complex ideas into clear, consistent, and emotionally resonant messaging. The position calls for strategic vision, creative leadership, and outstanding writing and editing skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Protect and refine CMMB's brand voice, ensuring consistent tone and messaging across all platforms and stakeholder groups.
- Build and run the annual communications plan and advertising campaigns, including digital promotions, while measuring and reporting on their impact.
- Partner with Strategy, Marketing, Development, and Global Communications teams to coordinate donor cultivation, acquisition, engagement, and retention efforts.
- Develop key messages, talking points, and positioning statements, and coach senior leaders, staff, and volunteers on organizational messaging.
- Pursue thought leadership through white papers, op-eds, conference speaking opportunities, and stronger relationships with journalists and new audiences.
- Provide strategic direction for the website, donor experience, and a global social media and content strategy across CMMB's country offices and affiliates.
- Recruit, manage, and develop the communications team, supervising three direct reports along with interns and volunteers, and lead measurement and process improvements.
Qualifications
- Proven leadership in communications, marketing, or brand strategy, ideally within a mission-driven or global organization.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and consistently.
- Strategic and innovative thinking, paired with strong campaign planning and execution across multiple channels and audiences.
- Experience managing teams, building cross-functional relationships, and supporting fundraising and advocacy efforts.
- Willingness to travel up to 20% locally and internationally.
