Friends of Children with Special Needs is hiring a Direct Support Professional to support our clients in Fremont, California. This is a meaningful part-time position on our Adaptive Supported Living Services team, where you'll make a direct impact on the lives of individuals with special needs.
About This Position
Friends of Children with Special Needs (FCSN) is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting families and individuals navigating life with special needs. We're seeking an energetic, patient, and reliable Direct Support Professional who thrives in direct-care environments. In this role, you'll provide individualized support as part of a team committed to fostering independence, dignity, and community inclusion for the clients we serve.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Provide direct, hands-on support to program participants in daily living activities and community engagement
- Follow individualized support plans and adapt your approach to meet each person's unique needs and goals
- Support participants in developing and maintaining life skills while encouraging independence and self-determination
- Communicate regularly with supervisors, families, and team members about participant progress and any concerns
- Maintain accurate documentation of services provided and participant interactions
- Ensure the safety, comfort, and dignity of those you support in all situations
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Proven patience, reliability, and genuine interest in supporting individuals with special needs
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to follow individualized plans while using sound judgment and flexibility
- Valid driver's license or reliable access to transportation
- Willingness to complete a background check and any required certifications for the role
- Detail-oriented mindset with ability to maintain accurate records
