Penske is hiring a full-time Diesel Technician/Mechanic III – Entry Level in Cairo, Grady County, Georgia — an ideal launch point for anyone ready to build a hands-on career keeping commercial fleets safely on the road.
About the Role
As an entry-level Diesel Technician/Mechanic III at Penske, you'll work alongside experienced technicians at our Cairo location (433 Commerce Ct, Cairo, GA 39828), learning the trade while servicing the trucks and trailers that keep our customers moving. This is a full-time, on-site position with a starting rate of $20.50 per hour, plus a $2.00 per hour premium for 2nd shift work. The standard schedule runs Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine preventive maintenance, inspections, and basic repairs on diesel-powered trucks and trailers
- Diagnose mechanical issues and support senior technicians on more advanced repair work
- Maintain accurate service records and follow Penske's safety and quality standards
- Keep the shop, tools, and equipment clean, organized, and ready for the next job
- Help deliver reliable service that keeps customer fleets running on schedule
Qualifications
- A genuine interest in diesel mechanics and a willingness to learn on the job — no extensive prior experience required for this entry-level role
- Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort working with hand and power tools
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to working safely
- Dependable attendance and the flexibility to work the scheduled shift, including 2nd shift when needed
- Ability to perform the physical demands of a shop environment, based in Cairo, Grady County
