About the Role
As a Deputy Sheriff I, you'll work under the supervision of experienced law enforcement leaders while developing core competencies in field policing. Your primary responsibilities will include serving the community as a trained law enforcement officer, managing custody and security operations, and responding to emergencies across the county. This entry-level sworn position provides the foundation for a long-term career in California law enforcement.
What You'll Do
- Perform field law enforcement duties under close mentorship and guidance
- Guard, supervise, and manage prisoners in county custody
- Respond to calls for service and investigate incidents
- Maintain public safety and enforce state and local laws
- Document cases and prepare accurate reports
- Communicate effectively with the public, courts, and other agencies
Compensation & Support
This position includes recruitment and retention incentives designed to support your success: $4,000 upon completing your first year, $3,000 at the end of year two, and $3,000 upon year three completion. If you're relocating to Calaveras County from more than 50 miles away, you'll receive a $2,000 relocation incentive upon hire.
