About the Role

As a Deputy Sheriff with Walker County Government, you will join a committed team of sworn officers working to keep La Fayette and all of Walker County safe. This is a frontline, full-time position that combines patrol duties, community engagement, and the enforcement of state and local laws. While the responsibilities below outline the core of the job, the role is broad by nature, and duties may evolve to meet the needs of the department and the public it serves.

Key Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned areas of Walker County to deter crime and respond to calls for service
• Enforce applicable state statutes and county ordinances fairly and professionally
• Respond to emergencies, investigate incidents, and document findings accurately
• Make lawful arrests, secure scenes, and preserve evidence
• Build trust with residents through positive, day-to-day community interaction
• Prepare detailed reports and provide testimony as needed

Qualifications

• Eligibility to serve as a sworn law enforcement officer in the state, including required certification or willingness to obtain it
• A clean background consistent with the standards of the Walker County Sheriff's Office
• Strong judgment, integrity, and the ability to remain composed under pressure
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Physical readiness to perform the demands of patrol and emergency response
• A genuine commitment to public service and the well-being of the community
