Anderson Center for Autism is seeking a Day Habilitation Specialist for our Violet Avenue program in Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County. About the Role
In this Day Habilitation Specialist role, you'll provide direct support and encouragement to adults with autism in our day program, fostering activities and experiences that build skills, confidence, and community connections. You'll help create an environment where every person experiences belonging, autonomy, and a genuine sense of purpose.
What You'll Do
- Facilitate structured and recreational activities aligned with individual strengths and goals
- Support the development of daily living, social, and community participation skills
- Maintain detailed documentation of participant engagement and progress
- Ensure a safe, welcoming, and inclusive program environment
- Partner with supervisors, colleagues, and family members on person-centered support
- Provide transportation for community outings and program activities as needed
- Deliver compassionate responses to individual needs and behavioral support
What We're Looking For
- Deep commitment to supporting adults with autism and intellectual disabilities
- Strong communication and listening skills with ability to build meaningful relationships
- Physical capability to assist with mobility and active program participation
- Reliable transportation and valid driver's license (preferred)
- Flexibility and responsiveness to individual and changing needs
- High school diploma or equivalent; prior experience in direct care or disability services valued
- Openness to pursuing relevant training and certifications
