Data Scientist (NLP and GenAI Specialist)

Morgan Stanley is hiring a Data Scientist specializing in Natural Language Processing and Generative AI for our Legal & Compliance division, based in Spring Valley, Clark County. This is a full-time, on-site position where you'll build and deploy AI-driven solutions that strengthen our firm's compliance infrastructure and risk management capabilities.

About the Role

Join our Non-Financial Risk team as a Data Scientist focused on NLP and generative AI technologies. You'll apply machine learning and quantitative methods to develop surveillance systems and compliance monitoring tools that help Morgan Stanley maintain regulatory excellence and operational integrity across the organization.

What You'll Do

• Design, develop, and operationalize natural language processing models that detect compliance risks and patterns in unstructured data
• Build and refine machine learning pipelines and quantitative frameworks for surveillance and monitoring applications
• Leverage generative AI techniques to improve data analysis, classification, and decision-support systems within compliance workflows
• Collaborate with legal, compliance, and risk teams to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions
• Evaluate and implement emerging NLP and AI methodologies to enhance model performance and scalability
• Document, validate, and deploy models in production environments with appropriate governance and oversight

What We're Looking For

• Strong foundation in natural language processing, machine learning, and statistical modeling
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, and ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, or similar)
• Experience building and evaluating classification, clustering, or extraction models on text data
• Familiarity with large language models, transformers, or generative AI applications
• Ability to work with ambiguous requirements and translate business problems into analytical solutions
• Strong communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred)
