CRE Underwriter, Sr

Columbia Bank seeks a Senior Commercial Real Estate Underwriter to join our lending team in Tacoma, Pierce County. In this full-time role, you will evaluate, underwrite, and present credit for sophisticated CRE transactions while partnering with our relationship managers to build and expand client partnerships across the region.

About the Role

As Senior CRE Underwriter at Columbia Bank, you'll drive the credit analysis and approval process for complex commercial real estate loans. You'll work across the full spectrum of CRE lending—construction financing, bridge loans, and permanent real estate credit—serving established developers, investors, and institutional borrowers. Your expertise will help relationship managers monitor and manage a substantial portfolio while deepening client relationships through strategic underwriting and credit guidance.

What You'll Do

• Analyze and underwrite commercial real estate credit requests, including construction, bridge, and permanent financing structures
• Prepare comprehensive credit presentations and recommendations for loan approval committees
• Partner with relationship managers to review existing CRE portfolio assets and identify risks or opportunities
• Evaluate borrower financial capacity, property fundamentals, market conditions, and repayment sources
• Collaborate with clients, appraisers, engineers, and legal counsel to complete thorough due diligence
• Document credit decisions and maintain compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements
• Support relationship managers in strengthening client partnerships and expanding banking services

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of commercial real estate underwriting or credit analysis experience
• Deep knowledge of CRE loan products, borrower credit analysis, and real property valuation
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate complex financial structures and risk characteristics
• Strong communication skills and ability to present credit decisions clearly to stakeholders
• Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and analytical capabilities
• Bachelor's degree in finance, business, real estate, or related field
• Proficiency with loan origination systems and financial analysis software
