About the Role
As a Spanish Court Interpreter with the Superior Court of California, County of Sonoma, you will bridge the language gap between the court and the people it serves. Working under general supervision in the United States, you will provide accurate, impartial interpretation that ensures Spanish-speaking individuals can fully participate in legal proceedings. This is an essential public service position supporting equal access to the justice system.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret faithfully between Spanish and English during courtroom hearings, proceedings, and related court business.
- Convey the full meaning and intent of all communication without adding, omitting, or altering content.
- Assist Spanish-speaking participants, including litigants, witnesses, and the public, in understanding court processes.
- Maintain strict neutrality, confidentiality, and the ethical standards expected of certified court interpreters.
- Work cooperatively with judges, attorneys, court staff, and other personnel to support efficient proceedings.
Qualifications
- Fluent command of both Spanish and English, with strong listening, comprehension, and verbal skills.
- Ability to interpret accurately and impartially in a demanding, fast-paced legal environment.
- Familiarity with legal terminology and court procedures, or the capacity to learn them quickly.
- Professional discretion, sound judgment, and a commitment to ethical conduct.
- Reliability and flexibility to support part-time scheduling needs.
Compensation
This part-time Spanish Court Interpreter role offers an hourly rate of $45.86 to $55.75, equivalent to $3,668.80 to $4,460.00 biweekly and $95,388.80 to $115,960.00 annually, as stated in the official listing.
