Construction Inspector – Bridge and Highway – VDOT

About the Role

As a VDOT Construction Inspector focused on bridge and highway work, you will serve as the on-the-ground quality and compliance presence for active transportation projects in Glenns, Middlesex County. You will monitor field operations, document progress, and help ensure that every phase of construction meets state engineering standards and contract requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct daily field inspections of bridge and highway construction activities to verify compliance with VDOT specifications and approved plans.
• Maintain accurate inspection reports, daily logs, quantity records, and project documentation.
• Observe and evaluate materials, workmanship, and construction methods for adherence to quality and safety standards.
• Coordinate with contractors, project engineers, and VDOT representatives to resolve field issues and keep work on schedule.
• Monitor jobsite safety practices and report deviations or concerns promptly.

Qualifications

• Experience inspecting transportation infrastructure, ideally bridge and highway construction, with familiarity with VDOT processes preferred.
• Working knowledge of construction plans, specifications, and field measurement and documentation practices.
• Strong attention to detail, clear written reporting skills, and the ability to communicate effectively on an active jobsite.
• Willingness to work full-time on location in Glenns, Middlesex County, including outdoor field conditions.
• Relevant inspection certifications are a plus.
