MIT is seeking a Communications Officer to join the School of Engineering’s Hood Pediatric Innovation Hub in Cambridgeport, Middlesex County on a part‑time basis.
About the Role
This position drives the visibility and engagement of the Hub’s initiatives by crafting compelling narratives, managing digital channels, and coordinating outreach efforts that highlight pediatric engineering innovations. The Communications Officer works closely with researchers, faculty, and external partners to amplify impact and foster community awareness.
What You'll Do
- Develop and execute communication strategies aligned with the Hub’s goals and MIT’s brand standards.
- Create clear, engaging content for newsletters, press releases, social media, and the Hub’s website.
- Manage media relations, pitch stories to journalists, and monitor coverage to assess reach.
- Design and implement marketing campaigns that promote events, publications, and partnership opportunities.
- Coordinate with cross‑functional teams to gather information, ensure messaging consistency, and support stakeholder engagement.
- Analyze performance metrics and adjust tactics to improve audience interaction and message effectiveness.
- Maintain an editorial calendar and oversee production timelines for all communications deliverables.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field; equivalent professional experience considered.
- Proven ability to write and edit persuasive copy for diverse audiences and platforms.
- Experience with digital marketing tools, social media management, and basic analytics.
- Strong interpersonal skills and comfort collaborating with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Familiarity with media outreach practices and the ability to build relationships with press contacts.
- Detail‑oriented with excellent organizational skills and the capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of higher education or research environments is a plus but not required.
