About the Role
Unified Government of Wyandotte County is recruiting a Collection Systems Apprentice to support the operation, maintenance, and improvement of the municipal wastewater collection infrastructure that serves Kansas City, Kansas. You'll gain practical experience working with professionals who keep our water and sewer systems running reliably and safely every day.
What You'll Do
- Assist licensed technicians with inspection, maintenance, and repair of wastewater collection lines and related infrastructure
- Support installation and replacement of collection system components under direct supervision
- Participate in cleaning, flushing, and clearing collection lines to maintain system performance
- Help troubleshoot system issues and document findings for engineering assessment
- Learn and follow all applicable safety protocols, environmental regulations, and best practices
- Contribute to the reliability and efficiency of the county's water and sewer systems
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or GED
- Genuine interest in learning a skilled trade and working outdoors in various weather conditions
- Commitment to following safety procedures and working collaboratively as part of a team
- Valid driver's license and dependable transportation
- Physical ability to perform manual labor and operate equipment safely
- Willingness to pass a post-offer criminal history background check, physical examination, and drug screening
- Proof of identity and employment eligibility documentation required
