The City of Antioch's Community & Economic Development Department is hiring a full-time Code Enforcement Officer I or II to investigate code violations, conduct field inspections, and ensure community compliance with municipal ordinances across Antioch, Contra Costa County.

About the Role

As a Code Enforcement Officer with the City of Antioch, you will investigate residential and commercial property violations, perform systematic field inspections, prepare detailed violation reports, and guide property owners toward compliance with local codes. Depending on your experience level, you may work independently or under supervision. This full-time position combines office administration with regular field work throughout the Antioch area and is part of the Community & Economic Development Department.

What You'll Do

  • Investigate code violations reported by residents or identified through routine inspections
  • Conduct comprehensive property inspections and thoroughly document all findings
  • Prepare, issue, and serve violation notices and citations
  • Follow up on enforcement cases to verify compliance and close actions
  • Create and maintain accurate records and reports in municipal systems
  • Educate property owners and the public on applicable codes and ordinances
  • Appear in administrative and judicial proceedings as needed
  • Collaborate with other city departments to resolve complex violations

What We're Looking For

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid California driver's license
  • Willingness to pass a background investigation
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • Physical capability to perform field inspections and outdoor work regularly
  • Familiarity with municipal codes and local ordinances, or readiness to develop this knowledge
  • Attention to detail and organized approach to record-keeping
  • Professional judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision
