About the Role

As Chief Deputy Probate Register, you play a critical role in the administration of probate proceedings across Ottawa County. Working directly under the Probate Register's supervision, you guide families, attorneys, and fiduciaries through the procedural and substantive requirements governing estates, conservatorships, and guardianships in Michigan. This position demands both legal knowledge and genuine compassion—you'll help people navigate some of life's most challenging moments while maintaining strict adherence to state law.

What You'll Do

  • Assist probate court participants in understanding and complying with the Estates and Protected Individuals Code (PA 386 of 1998) and the Mental Health Code (PA 258 of 1974)
  • Review court filings and documentation for completeness and legal sufficiency
  • Provide guidance on procedural requirements and court rules to diverse court users
  • Support the administration of estate, guardianship, and conservatorship matters
  • Maintain detailed records and ensure accurate court documentation
  • Collaborate with attorneys, family members, and court-appointed fiduciaries
  • Respond to inquiries regarding probate proceedings and deadlines
