Soho House & Co. is seeking a full-time Commis Chef to join the team at Soho Farmhouse - Chipping Norton, UK. This position lets you support the kitchen brigade while refining your craft and helping deliver quality dining for members and guests.
Position Summary
As the Commis Chef at Soho House & Co. located in Soho Farmhouse - Chipping Norton, UK, you will work closely with senior kitchen colleagues to prepare dishes of the highest standard. Daily activities centre on ready-to-serve food preparation, station set-up and stocking, plus plating that meets club guidelines, all while upholding the values expected of the team.
Your Responsibilities
- Support chefs on every kitchen section by preparing and producing dishes that show consistency and careful detail.
- Stick to recipe instructions, portion sizes and presentation rules given by the Chef de Partie or Sous Chef.
- Keep food preparation areas clean and orderly while following hygiene, food safety and allergen procedures at all times.
- Help receive and store deliveries, rotate stock correctly and apply labels that meet HACCP requirements.
- Build competence in core techniques covering knife work, basic sauces, vegetable preparation and finished plating.
- Complete all mise en place on schedule and keep the rest of the brigade informed about progress.
- Take ownership of the tasks assigned to you and finish them within agreed timeframes and quality levels.
- Show a ready attitude to develop by seeking coaching and constructive feedback from senior chefs.
- Contribute to the preparation and service of team meals so they remain high quality and suitable for dietary needs.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum of two years’ previous experience in a comparable kitchen role.
- Genuine enthusiasm for food, careful attention to detail and a clear wish to keep learning.
- Working knowledge of basic food safety and hygiene practices.
- Sound communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively.
- Positive, proactive and respectful manner under pressure in a busy kitchen.
- A culinary qualification such as NVQ Level 1 or 2 is helpful though not essential.
- Ability to demonstrate the competencies set out in the training schedule and Club School.
- Willingness to work flexible shifts and rotas, including weekends and bank holidays as rostered.
- Capability to follow direction, contribute within a team and also work independently when required.
