Southern Company is hiring an experienced Category Manager for our Supply Management organization, with the position based in the Birmingham, Alabama area and potential assignment to operational facilities across the Southeast. This is a full-time role focused on strategic procurement, supplier optimization, and driving value through disciplined category management.

About the Role

You'll lead procurement strategy and vendor management across assigned commodity categories, using a systematic approach to enhance purchasing decisions and deliver operational value. This Supply Management position plays a key role in supporting Southern Company's financial performance and operational success through strategic sourcing and supplier partnership.

What You'll Do

  • Build and implement category strategies that align with business priorities and reduce overall procurement costs
  • Own supplier relationships—from selection and contract negotiation through ongoing performance monitoring
  • Analyze spending data and market conditions to uncover cost reduction and value opportunities
  • Negotiate supplier agreements, pricing, and commercial terms to secure competitive value
  • Work cross-functionally with operations, engineering, and business teams to understand needs and deliver results
  • Track supplier quality, delivery, and service against established performance standards

What We're Looking For

  • Proven background in procurement, sourcing, category management, or supply chain operations
  • Strong analytical mindset with ability to interpret spend patterns and make data-driven sourcing decisions
  • Demonstrated negotiation and vendor management skills
  • Track record of cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder communication
  • Familiarity with procurement platforms, tools, and supply chain management practices
  • Ability to drive results in a fast-paced, complex environment

Position Details

This full-time position may be based in Birmingham, Alabama; Dothan, Alabama; Waynesboro, Georgia; or Baxley, Georgia, depending on operational assignments and candidate qualifications.
