About the Role
The Assistant Cross Country Coach plays a vital role in supporting the middle school cross country program at Irving Middle School. This position requires a passion for developing young distance runners and fostering both athletic excellence and personal growth through competitive running.
What You'll Do
- Assist in coaching and training cross country athletes at the middle school level
- Design and implement conditioning, technique, and skill-development programs
- Monitor athlete health, safety, and proper running form during practice and competition
- Prepare runners for meets and manage meet day logistics
- Support program recruitment, retention, and athlete development
- Collaborate with the head coach and athletic director on program goals and strategy
- Maintain records and communicate with athletes, parents, and school administration
What We're Looking For
- Idaho Teacher Certification or NFHS/ASEP coaching certification
- Documented experience as a cross country player and/or coach
- Strong knowledge of distance running training methods and youth athlete development
- Excellent communication, leadership, and mentoring skills
- Commitment to student-athlete safety, welfare, and academic success
- Ability to work collaboratively with school administration and coaching staff

Position Details
This is a full-time position with no teaching assignment at this time. The Assistant Cross Country Coach reports directly to the Athletic Director and Principal.
