Job Overview
We are seeking a talented Appian Developer to join our Application Engineering team and support the design, development, and maintenance of Appian-based workflow and process automation solutions. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, including consultants, architects, QA engineers, and infrastructure specialists, to deliver high-quality applications that meet client requirements and industry standards. The ideal candidate will be responsible for building scalable business process solutions, enhancing operational efficiency, supporting managed services and project delivery initiatives, and leveraging AI-driven approaches to drive continuous improvement and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and deliver Appian solutions including process models, SAIL interfaces,records, reports, sites, decisions and expressions in line with business requirements,following platform standards and best practices for performance, scalability, security and maintainability.
- Build and maintain integrations between Appian and external systems using REST/SOAP APIs, connected systems, web services and database integrations alongside data models,CDTs and smart services to support workflow and business process automation.
- Conduct unit testing, debugging and performance tuning, produce technical documentation, support UAT, production deployments, and release coordination.
- Work closely with Application Consultants and business analysts to translate functional requirements into technical designs including correspondence and document generation solutions integrated with the Appian platform, and integration with SmartCOMM and other
correspondence tooling where applicable. - Translate business process requirements into well-structured Appian workflow solutions that automate, streamline and improve operational processes for clients.
- Identify opportunities to automate and streamline existing workflows, reducing manual effort and improving client outcomes.
- Apply AI-assisted tools and AI-first thinking, stay current with Appian platform capabilities including Appian AI, RPA and emerging low-code capabilities to improve development efficiency and embed automation into client solutions.
- Develop in accordance with our client’s engineering standards ensuring consistency across client environments, participate in code and design reviews, and apply Financial Services requirements and regulatory obligations and operational context relevant to our client’s clients to deliver solution design and delivery.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of Client’s Appian engineering standards, patterns and reusable components.
- Engage with client stakeholders, contribute to Agile ceremonies, support junior developers, and provide production support including diagnosis and issue resolution.
Professional Qualifications and Skills
Essential
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
- 2+ years hands-on Appian development, with demonstrable production delivery is a must.
- Appian Developer certification (Associate or higher) or equivalent demonstrated practical experience.
- Strong proficiency in core Appian components: SAIL, Process Models, Records, Reports, Sites, Decisions, Expressions, and Custom Data Types.
- Experience building REST/SOAP API integrations, connected systems, and web services.
- Experience with programming languages, such as Python, Java, C#, and .NET-based languages.
- Solid SQL and relational database skills, including data modelling and query optimisation.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum delivery frameworks including sprint planning, backlog management and collaborative team ceremonies.
- Strong troubleshooting, debugging and communication skills across technical and nontechnical stakeholders
Highly Regarded
- Appian Senior Developer or Lead Developer certification.
- Experience with Appian RPA, Appian AI features or SmartCOMM/other correspondence platforms.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment tooling (GitHub, Bamboo, Jenkins or similar), cloud platforms (Azure or AWS), AI-assisted development tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot, AI-assisted testing tools).
- Experience supporting or operating Appian applications in a managed services environment.
- Exposure to superannuation, financial services, or similarly regulated industry environments.
