Adjunct Faculty – Interior Design – 3-D Design Studio

Harper College is seeking an Adjunct Faculty member for Interior Design – 3‑D Design Studio at its Hoffman Estates, Cook County campus.

About the Role

This part‑time, adjunct position supports the college’s Interior Design program by delivering studio‑based instruction in three‑dimensional design. The instructor will guide students through conceptual development, material exploration, and presentation techniques while adhering to the established curriculum. Courses are offered in day, evening, and/or online formats, with a typical workload not exceeding 24 contact hours per academic year.

What You'll Do

  • Teach IND 203 – 3D Design Studio, preparing lesson plans that align with college standards and industry practices.
  • Facilitate hands‑on studio sessions, encouraging experimentation with form, scale, and spatial relationships.
  • Provide constructive critique on student projects, helping learners refine their design thinking and technical skills.
  • Assess student work through rubrics, portfolio reviews, and written feedback, submitting grades in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a safe and organized studio environment, overseeing the use of tools, materials, and digital equipment.
  • Stay current with emerging trends in interior design and 3‑D modeling software, integrating relevant updates into course content.
  • Participate in department meetings, curriculum reviews, and occasional outreach events as needed.

What We're Looking For

  • A master’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a closely related field; a bachelor’s degree combined with substantial professional experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrated expertise in three‑dimensional design, including proficiency with software such as SketchUp, Rhino, AutoCAD, Revit, or comparable tools.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing professional or academic work that illustrates mastery of form, materiality, and spatial composition.
  • Previous teaching or facilitation experience in a studio or workshop setting is preferred but not required.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate design concepts clearly to diverse learners.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive classroom that supports students of varying backgrounds and skill levels.
  • Reliability and professionalism, including punctuality for class sessions and adherence to college policies.
