Accounting Manager

CLA is conducting a retained search on behalf of Summit Plating to place a full-time Accounting Manager at their headquarters in Thomaston, Litchfield County, Connecticut — a pivotal finance leadership role inside a well-established, privately held precision manufacturing company.

About the Role

Summit Plating has been a cornerstone of the industrial electroplating and metal finishing industry since 1948, delivering high-precision surface finishing solutions to exacting standards. As Accounting Manager, you will serve as the financial backbone of this Thomaston-based operation, overseeing the full accounting function and partnering directly with senior leadership to drive sound financial decisions.

What You'll Do

• Lead and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycles, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting
• Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger functions
• Support cost accounting activities tied to manufacturing operations, including job costing and variance analysis
• Develop and monitor budgets and forecasts in collaboration with department heads
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls, policies, and procedures
• Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors during reviews and annual audits
• Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff to build team capability
• Monitor cash flow and support treasury management activities

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field; CPA designation preferred
• Meaningful experience in an accounting management or senior accounting role, ideally within a manufacturing or industrial environment
• Solid command of GAAP and cost accounting principles
• Hands-on proficiency with ERP systems and advanced Excel skills
• Proven ability to manage and develop a small accounting team
• Strong analytical mindset with exceptional attention to detail
• Effective communicator capable of translating financial data for non-finance stakeholders
