About the Role

As an Accountant I/II with the City of Kennewick, you will support the accurate and transparent management of public funds. The position is structured across two levels, with appointment based on experience and qualifications. Initial applications will be reviewed beginning April 15, 2026, after the posting has been open for three weeks.

  • Level I: $7,309 – $9,355 per month
  • Level II: $8,618 – $11,032 per month

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, maintain, and reconcile accounting records in accordance with governmental accounting standards.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements, reports, and supporting schedules.
  • Process and review journal entries, accounts, and ledger transactions for accuracy.
  • Support budgeting, auditing, and month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable policies, regulations, and internal controls.
  • Collaborate with departments to provide reliable financial information and analysis.

Qualifications

  • A background in accounting, finance, or a closely related field appropriate to the assigned level.
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles, with familiarity in governmental or fund accounting preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and accuracy in handling financial data.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Higher-level appointment (Level II) requires additional relevant experience and demonstrated proficiency.
