Role Overview

Rockhampton Zoo is seeking experienced and passionate Zoo Keepers to join our team on a casual basis. This role involves hands-on experience caring for mammals, birds, and/or reptiles in a professional zoo environment. As a Zoo Keeper, you will be responsible for the daily care, feeding, and maintenance of animals, as well as ensuring their health and welfare.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Care for and feed animals, including mammals, birds, and reptiles
• Maintain animal enclosures and habitats to ensure a clean and safe environment
• Monitor the health of animals and report any concerns to the supervising veterinarian or manager
• Participate in enrichment activities to stimulate natural behaviors in the animals
• Assist with veterinary procedures, including routine check-ups and treatments
• Document daily observations and care routines for each animal

Requirements

• Hands-on experience caring for mammals, birds, or reptiles in a professional zoo environment
• Demonstrated knowledge of animal behavior, nutrition, and health
• A passion for animals and a commitment to their welfare
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays as required
• Valid driver's license (as some duties may require travel)
• Physical fitness to perform the role's demands, including lifting heavy objects and standing for extended periods
