Utility Locator

Usicinc is seeking a full-time Utility Locator in Dayton, OH to help protect underground infrastructure by accurately identifying and marking buried lines for excavation projects across the local area.

About the Role

This Utility Locator position based in Dayton, OH places you on the front lines of safe digging practices. You will travel to job sites throughout the region, interpret locate tickets and facility maps, and use electronic equipment to pinpoint the position of underground utilities so crews can dig without risk. Key Responsibilities

• Operate electromagnetic locating devices and related tools to detect and trace underground utility lines including gas, electric, water, sewer, and telecommunications cables.
• Review and prioritize locate requests, maps, and blueprints to plan daily routes and ensure all tickets are completed accurately and on time.
• Mark identified utility paths with color-coded paint, flags, or stakes according to industry standards and local regulations.
• Document locate findings, measurements, and photos so records remain complete for contractors and facility owners.
• Communicate courteously with excavators, property owners, and team members to confirm mark locations and resolve any discrepancies on site.
• Maintain locating equipment, vehicle, and safety gear in proper working order while following all workplace safety protocols.
• Adapt to changing weather and terrain conditions common in the Dayton, OH area while keeping a strong focus on quality and efficiency.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent education level.
• Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record and the ability to travel independently to multiple job sites each day.
• Comfort working outdoors for extended periods in all weather conditions and performing physical tasks such as walking distances, kneeling, and light lifting.
• Strong attention to detail, spatial awareness, and the ability to read maps and technical drawings.
• Clear verbal communication skills and a customer-service mindset when interacting with contractors and the public.

• Willingness to learn locating techniques, equipment operation, and safety procedures through structured on-the-job training.
