Fort Greene Council is seeking a full-time Chef to join our culinary team in Brooklyn, New York City. In this role, you'll prepare nutritious, appetizing meals for our multiple community centers while making a meaningful impact on the residents we serve across the borough.

Role Overview

As Chef at Fort Greene Council, you'll lead meal planning, preparation, and service for our Older Adult Centers and early childhood education programs throughout Brooklyn. This position combines culinary expertise with community-focused care, ensuring our diverse clientele receives meals that nourish both body and spirit. You'll manage food inventory, maintain rigorous health and safety standards, and collaborate with program staff to create dining experiences that enrich our participants' daily lives.

Your Responsibilities

• Plan nutritionally balanced menus that accommodate diverse dietary needs, cultural preferences, and restrictions
• Prepare high-quality meals from scratch using fresh ingredients in our kitchen facilities
• Oversee kitchen operations, food safety protocols, sanitation practices, and equipment maintenance
• Manage food ordering, inventory tracking, and operational budgets responsibly
• Train and supervise kitchen staff or volunteers to maintain service quality and consistency
• Respond to participant feedback and adapt offerings seasonally and based on community input
• Coordinate with program directors to support special events, celebrations, and community gatherings

Qualifications

• Professional culinary training, certification, or substantial hands-on kitchen experience
• Strong knowledge of food safety, sanitation standards, and proper food handling procedures
• Experience planning and preparing meals for diverse populations, including seniors and young children
• Demonstrated ability to manage food budgets, ordering, and kitchen operations efficiently
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to thrive in a collaborative, mission-driven environment
• Flexibility and responsiveness to evolving community needs and program requirements
