Killeen ISD is hiring a Carpenter Apprentice to join our Facilities Services department. This full-time trade position offers hands-on training in carpentry fundamentals while supporting our maintenance and construction teams across the school district.
About the Role
As a Carpenter Apprentice at Killeen ISD, you'll gain practical experience in the skilled trades under the mentorship of experienced carpenters. Working in a structured apprenticeship environment, you'll contribute to building and maintaining the physical infrastructure that keeps our schools safe, functional, and well-maintained. This is a non-exempt full-time position that reports to a Carpenter supervisor.
What You'll Do
- Work alongside certified carpenters on construction, installation, and repair projects
- Build and assemble structural components using wood, plywood, wallboard, and related materials
- Measure, cut, and fit materials to precise specifications
- Install framing, doors, windows, cabinetry, and finish work on school facilities
- Maintain and repair existing structures across district buildings
- Learn proper use and care of hand and power tools in a safe, professional setting
- Follow safety protocols and building codes on all job sites
- Assist with material preparation and work area organization
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or GED
- Genuine interest in learning the carpentry trade
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and work collaboratively
- Physical capability to lift heavy materials and work in various environments
- Willingness to learn proper tool usage and safety practices
- Reliable attendance and professional work ethic
- Basic math skills for measurements and calculations
