Join RWE Americas as a Sr Engineer I, Electrical Projects, leading the design and delivery of electrical systems for renewable energy installations across the Illinois Medical District in Chicago. In this full-time, permanent role, you will drive the technical development of wind, solar, and energy storage projects from conception through operational handover.
About the Role
RWE Americas is building the clean energy infrastructure of the future. As a Sr Engineer I, Electrical Projects, you'll manage the complete electrical engineering lifecycle for utility-scale renewable projects. This is a hands-on technical leadership position where your expertise shapes how power systems are designed, specified, and deployed—directly impacting the transition to sustainable energy.
What You'll Do
- Direct the electrical architecture and balance-of-plant design across development, detailed design, and construction phases
- Lead technical coordination with equipment vendors, contractors, and cross-functional engineering teams
- Develop detailed specifications, single-line diagrams, and control system requirements through issued-for-construction documentation
- Conduct site assessments and power system studies to inform system design and equipment selection
- Ensure compliance with grid interconnection standards, electrical codes, and safety regulations
- Provide technical oversight during construction and commissioning activities
- Prepare technical reports and maintain comprehensive project documentation
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline
- 5+ years of experience in power systems, renewable energy, or related infrastructure projects
- Demonstrated knowledge of wind energy, solar photovoltaic, or battery storage system design
- Proficiency with electrical engineering software and design tools
- Strong understanding of IEEE standards and grid interconnection requirements
- Excellent technical communication and project coordination skills
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
